What happens when you mix Blues, brews and Rotarians together on a warm sunny day? You get a celebration and a very successful fundraiser! Saturday, August 25th, brought together the perfect mix of music, frosty libations, tasty tri-tip and quite possibly the best summer day experienced this year in the South Puget Sound! It all happened at the Des Moines Beach Park as the Rotary Club of Des Moines offered up their 3rd annual Blues & Brews festival.
A record crowd of 1,200 (double from last year attendance) gathered to enjoy a day filled with handcrafted brew and cider and listen to four excellent local Blues bands. The Washington Blues Society was also present and hopes to be a sponsor of the event next year.
The event raised $16,000 towards local and international Rotary projects. The primary beneficiary of the event was Highline Music4Life, which brings music to youth in the Highline Public Schools. The program is a collaboration between Highline Public Schools, the Rotary Club of Des Moines and many individuals and businesses, partnering together to expand music education for all children.
Mark your calendars for next year’s Poverty Bay Blues & Brews, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 24th, 2013 at the Des Moines Beach Park. We hope to see you there!
